Project Management

Understanding, learning and using Project Management skills are essential for Lean Six Sigma to deliver results. The essential project management elements are developing scope, estimating cost, obtaining resources, developing time lines and managing risks for successful outcomes. Projects are generally progressed thru stages of development starting with initiating, then planning followed by execution, monitoring and controlling and finally closing. Developing projects thru stages allows reducing surprises and using resources and time in an efficient manner. However recently Agile Project Management thinking allows overlap of these distinct stages by teams working closely with customers and stakeholders to meet needs of the customers. This method is very suitable where it is difficult for the customer to specify all their requirements early on, requirements develop and are clarified as the project progresses. This is generally is the case with software projects or other fast track projects.

Project Management Institute (PMI) has published A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge ( PMBOK® Guide )—Fifth Edition which is an authoritative source for knowing best practices in the field of Project Management.
